Motherhood can be overwhelming for anyone. That’s where Camden Healthy Start (CHS) comes in to provide a little extra support. On September 24, CHS hosted a baby shower for new and soon-to-be moms enrolled in the program. Linda Diaz is expecting a baby girl in November. She brought her 8-year-old son to the event with her. She was also joined by her sister.
“It was really fun and helpful. Learning how to use an exercise ball throughout pregnancy helped me prepare for my baby,” says Diaz.
This fun and free event included food, games and presentations. Health educator Nasheeda Crafton spoke to attendees about pain management techniques for labor as well as safe sleep practices for babies. There was something just for dads, too. Fathers on Track Coordinator Lawrence Burden talked about the Fathers on Track program for Camden City fathers looking for networking, parenting education and support.
“Let’s face it, sometimes dads get stressed out. That’s where they can come to our group and they can vent,” says Burden.
Clients who attended the shower received diaper bags with baby supplies as well as pack-n-plays. This was the fourth baby shower CHS held this year.
